Chennai or Madras as it was called some time recently, on the Coromandel Coast, is the capital city of Tamil Nadu, a state of the Indian sub-landmass. It is an industrial, cultural, economic, commercial and academic centre of the Southern India. Chennai city is the 6th biggest populated in Indian urban areas. It is known as the "Detroit of India" in light of the fact that many vehicle enterprises are situated here.


There are numerous adaptations and legends with respect to how this current city's name continued changing from Madras and Chennai every time. Initially this city was called as Madras, from Madraspattinam amid Nayakars run the show. It was an angling town arranged toward the north of the present Fort St. George. British purchased the real estate parcel from the king of Vijayanagar and fabricated the Fort St. George that houses the present secretariat complex of Government of Tamil Nadu. British held the name as Madrasapattinam, however neighborhood individuals called it as Chennapattinam. A legend in like manner says, this city was first named Chennai to pay tribute to Damal Chennappa Nayakkar. In 1996, the then managing Government of Madras, renamed it as Chennai and it stands great till date.
