Nalanda was initially a village by a major trade route that ran through the nearby city of Rajagriha (which was then the capital of Magadha), now a days Rajagriha is called as Rajgir.
Nalanda is located at the south east of Patna which is about 95 km from it. There are in past there are large no of teaching institutions such as Taxila, Nalanda, and Vikramashila. At its peak, the school attracted scholars and students from near and far with some travelling all the way from Tibet, China Korea and Central Asia.
Anyone can easily get regular buses to Nalanda from other major cities of the country.
Nalanda is well connected to major cities of the country via regular trains.
Nalanda is the nearest to Patna airport which is approximately 57 km from the town of Patna.
