Vangani Waterfall is situated near Bedisgaon village of Ambernath Taluka in Thane district of Maharashtra. The waterfall is in very close vicinity to Vangani railway station and is at a distance of two hour journey from Mumbai.
It is one of the most famous waterfalls and is popularly known as Bhagirath Waterfall. The name of the waterfall has been derived from Bhagirath, an ancient King as per Hindu mythology, who is believed to bring Goddess Ganga (the river Ganga) on Earth with his intense penance and devotion towards Lord Shiva.
This waterfall is a major tourist attraction especially for the people who are from Mumbai and Pune during weekends. Since, Vangani enjoys heavy rainfall during monsoons; it leaves the area quite lush green and picture perfect for the viewers. The waterfall enjoys maximum flow during monsoons. The surrounding area around waterfall offers very serene and tranquil atmosphere which make you feel like sleeping in the lap of Mother Nature. Tourists from all over India visit this picturesque waterfall every year in large numbers.
There is also a dam named Bhagirath Dam near to the waterfall. Since, Vangani Waterfall only flows during monsoons and hence to attract and develop tourism in such a small village of Vangani, the local government constructed a small dam at the base of Vangani Waterfall with an intention to pump down the natural water stream into an in-built concrete tank. This pumping recreates the waterfall throughout the year to attract the tourists.
It is a must visit place for couples and adventure lovers because of its peaceful and romantic location.
