Falaknuma Palace

Falaknuma Palace located in Hyderabad is one of the richest and finest palaces of the city, where Falaknuma is an Urdu word which means ‘like the sky’ or ‘mirror of the sky’. It was constructed by former Prime Minister of Hyderabad Nawab Vikar-Ul-Umra in the year 1893 and then it was taken by Mehboob Ali Pasha, sixth Nizam of Hyderabad.

This palace is on a hill which is 200 feet height from the ground and is spread across 32 acres of land.Speaking about the architecture of the Palace, it has a mixed style of Italian and Tudor with a shape of a scorpion with its stings spread out and also includes European elements like frescoes on the ceiling, stained glass windows. The dining table measures is108 feet and can seat 101 people at one time is the longest in the world and the acoustics are designed such that a person sitting at one end of the table can perfectly hear what the person at the other end is talking about.

There is a unique organ in the ballroom of the palace that weighs 2 tons and it is manually operated. The palace is decorated by forty Venetian chandeliers, which took almost six months to fix. Switchboards used in this palace are largest in India and the Billiards room table is one from Buckingham Palace.

Falaknuma palace a place of royalty, resplendence, majesty, grandeur, magnificence, aristocracy, stateliness, fineness was left alone after Nizam left in 1951 and now it is taken by Taj group of hotels in the year 2000 for 30 years of lease by paying 50% profits to present Nizam prince.
