King Kothi Palace is located in Hyderabad which was constructed by Kamal Kahn the noble prize winner, as his personal residence so he made a symbolic representation of “K.K”.The Architectural style of the King Kothi Palace represents European traditions with Islamic and Hindu motifs. later the Nizam purchased the building.
The seventh Nizam, Osman Ali Khan entered the palace at the age of thirteen and he felt dishonoured by seeing the “K.K” symbol, so he named the palace as King Kothi means Kings Mansion.Later Osman Ali Khan ascended to the throne in 1911. But did not go to Chowmahalla Palace where his father was.
It has three main buildings and is sub divided into two groups. The first group in the eastern half hosted by the Usman Mansion and was knocked down by the state government in 1980 and hospital was constructed in this place. Whereas the Eastern wing of the building was used for ceremonial and official purposes by Nizam.
Western half is hosted by second group where it is a residential section of Nizam known as Nazri Bagh or Mubarak Mansion. The main entrance to Nazri Bagh is known to be purdah gate because there will be curtain across it, if the king is there then purdah will be closed and if the king is not available the purdah will be opened. The main gate is always guarded by Maisaram Regiment, police, and the Sarf-e-Khas army. There is also Judi Mosque in the palace where Osman Ali khan willed to get buried in the mosque that faced his residence. On the east to the Mubarak Mansion there is a Ghadial Gate known as gate of clock. At present Mubarak Mansion (Nazri Bagh) accommodating the offices of the Nizam’s private estates (Sarf E Khas).
