Laad Bazaar or Choodi Bazaar is a very old market popular for bangles located in Hyderabad. It is located on one of the four main roads that branch out from the historic Charminar. Laad bazaar is a famous, vibrant shopping centre of Hyderabad city, tucked away in one of the streets leading off from Charminar. The market is about 1 km long and is specifically popular for bangles, bridal wear, sarees, pearls, nirmal, kalamkari paintings, handwoven materials of silk, brocade, velvet and gold embroidered fabrics, cotton, traditiondal khara dupattas and perfumes, semi-precious stones, the traditional hyderabadi glass and stone studded bangles are sold there.
The name “Laad Bazaar” has apparently derived from word “laad” which means lacquer. Lacquer is one of the important materials used to make bangles which are most popular amongst visitors. Charminar has been popular for bangles and various other traditional items since many decades. Lacquer Bangles(bangles with diamond studs) are the speciality of this market.
The bazaar sees an approximate of 500-600 foreign tourists every day. It is a popular tourist spot for both national and international tourists. Once you get in to the bazaar, you are supposed to walk on foot as the vehicles are not permitted inside the bazaar.
This market has been functioning since the times of Qutub Shah and the Nizams.
