Lamakaan— an Open Cultural Space

Lamakaan is an inclusive cultural space which nurtures and presents the best of the arts, debate, dialogue and literature with a commitment to being open and accessible. It is located in Banjara Hills, next to the lane to CBay Building (now called MModal).

It was founded by Biju Mathew, Ashhar Farhan, Elahe Hiptoola and Humera Ahmed. It is a non-sectarian space where new generation of thinkers and activists communicate and grow. It is a place where you will find budding bands, dedicated dramatist, artistic painters, aspiring photographers and struggling starlet. It also welcomes peoples who just want to sit in corners and witness the informal aura of this place. You can also conduct a team meeting of your company in this peaceful and energetic surrounding. It is not only the hanging out place for youngsters, but also a talent hub for vibrant and enthusiastic Hyderabadis who wants to achieve the ultimate goal in their life.

Lamakaan started hosting events from March 2010. You will witness plays, exhibitions and many other events, all at one place. It also has a small self-service canteen which has a good variety of food and beverages. The canteen staff every day display the menu on a white board depending on what all is available in kitchen on that particular day. Samosas of Lamakaan are very much popular.

Hence, being in the centre of the city, Lamakaan is an ideal meeting place for friends working or living in opposite parts of the city. WiFi is also free here. Before going to see an event in the evening, do check the schedule on the Facebook page of Lamakaan.
