Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park is a deer national park located in the outskirts of Hyderabad (Vanasthalipuram) on Hyderabad-Vijayawada road. It is spread over 3,758 acres. It is the largest green lung space in the city of Hyderabad.
The park is maintained by the Forest Department. And the park has the availability of guided tours with a shuttle service which allows the people to get close to the blackbucks. The park includes a flora of Dry deciduous forest mixed with scrub jungle and grasslands, sandalwood, rosewood, palas, amalthas, albizzias, acacias, teak and the fauna which includes the park are panther, blackbuck, cheetal, wild boar, civet, porcupine, peacock, 30 species of reptiles and over 120 species of birds.
The people who would like to enter the park by van or by car have to pay an entry fee. And the visitors can also climb a tower to view the animals.
The park is named after the renowed Indian Saint Lord Mahavir, a Jain saint, in commemoration of his 2500th nirvan anniversary in the year 1975. The park was once a part of shikarghar of Nizam rulers of Hyderabad.
The park has the facilities of environmental education centre to impart nature education and nature trails & camps, safari drive etc. This park is visited by many tourists and is considered as one of the tourist place of Hyderabad.
