Nehru Zoological Park

Nehru Zoological Park is a zoo located near Mir Alam Tank in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. It is one of the most visited destinations in Hyderabad. It is 16 kilometres away from the city of Hyderabad and is situated in Bahadurpura area on the way to the N G Ranga Agricultural University in Rajendranagar. It is one of the biggest zoos in the country as well as in Asia. Nehru Zoological Park have around 1,500 species. The Zoo has a lion safari park and this should be viewed by every visitor. Natural history museum and a Children Park are also present in this park. It is one of the biggest natural parks in the Hyderabad where you can spend your day by enjoying the nature.

On 6th October 1963 was the day Nehru Zoological Park opened up for normal people for viewing some notable and beautiful species like the Indian Rhino, Asiatic Lion, Tiger, Panther, Giraffe and Gaur etc., and lot of Deer’s and Antelope’s are present. The zoo authorities has also given some animals like Deer’s for different deer parks and sanctuaries for restoring animals which are going to extinct.

Primates like Chimpanzee from Central Africa, Mandrill, Orangatun, Chacma, Olive and yellow baboons (in open islands) etc. and Indian primates include Rhesus, Bonnet, and Monkeys (stump-tailed, lion-tailed and pig-tailed), Golden and common langurs are housed in the zoo. Carnivores like African and Indian Lions, Tigers, Panthers, Jackals, Wolves, Hyenas, Bears etc. and reptiles like Giant/ Star Tortoises, water Turtles, Estuarine Crocodiles in open pools, Monitor Lizards and Chameleons share enclosures, hooded Indian Cobra, Russels Viper, Giant rock-Python, Tree Snakes etc. are also found here. Elephants, Rhinoceros, Hippopotamus, Zebras, American Bison, Antelopes, Black Buck, Chousingha, Chinkara, Deer, Sambhar, and Brow Antler Deer etc. are the herbivores one can enjoy watching.

African and Indian Lions are shown open in this Zoo. It is the only safari park for Indian Lions in Asia, with natural setting same as forest. Our national animal Tiger is also present in the zoo, both white Tiger’s and normal Tiger’s are present in open forest area. The Panthers (normal & black) are shown in large area which is surrounded by rock cliffs. It also includes the Wolves, Jackals, Foxes and Hyena.
