Sitaram Bagh Temple is a Hindu temple located in Mangalhat, a suburb of Hyderabad. The temple is dedicated to Lord Rama and his wife Sita. The temple is spread over 25 acres. There are also shrines of Lord Shiva, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Hanuman and Varadarajaswamy within the temple.
This temple was built during 18th century under the regime of Nizam III or IV by Sri Puranmal Generiwal, a banker. He acquired a large plot of land near the village of Mallapally. The property comprised of an old Mosque also which was made by Qutub Shahis. Puranmalji constructed a temple complex in 1825, adjacent to the mosque and laid out a garden in the remaining grounds. Towards the eastern corner of the property, an area was set apart for the samadhis. It is said that the grand opening of the temple was attended by the Nizam, along with his Prime Minister Maharaja Chandulal and they also sanctioned a grant of revenue of two villages in the Berar and also some land in Aurangabad district towards its upkeep. A trust has been set up by the Generiwal family to look after the temple affairs.
The architecture style of the temple is a mixture of Mughal-Rajput, Kakatiyan and classic European styles of art. It is a walled temple complex which contains huge gateways, gausbala(cow shed), vedic pathshala, samadhis and baolis. There are also residential quarters for the owner of complex and few Brahman families inside the temple. There is a lofty wall surrounding the temple which is about 20 feet high and thus the temple looks like a fort wall. The major sanctum sanctorum of the presiding deities of lord Rama and Goddess Sita are made from marble stone and were brought from Jaipur in Rajasthan. The open green space near the temple is now used for commercial functions. The ambience inside the temple make the visitors enter into the world of peace and spirituality.
